Cohorted Beauty Box March 2018 – Unboxing and Product Reviews

This month’s Cohorted arrived very late. Cohorted is often one of the last beauty boxes to arrive every month but this month it was late even by Cohorted normal timeframes. The company did send an email to inform everyone that they had an attempted breaking and that they won’t be including the 5^th item in this month’s box but rather in next month’s. I personally don’t mind how late the box arrived or even that it is missing one item. Life happens and it is very sad to hear that they had an attempted break in.

With that being said, I still thought that this month’s Cohorted was a disappointment. The items contained weren’t as interesting as one would expect from Cohorted and that has nothing to do with their attempted break in.

The Cohorted box was as always the standard black, square box that closes magnetically and ties with a ribbon. The box also comes with a monthly, small beauty magazine (about 30 pages) that tells you a little bit more about each product and some featured products or artists.

This month’s Cohorted box contained 4 unique products of which all were full size, from left to right: a contour palette, a brow setter, a brow concealer and a brush.

Let’s dive in a little more deeply into how each product performed after a week’s use. Bear in mind that these are my personal opinions and as beauty is a very personal thing, we all have different skin, beauty requirements and biological build which can influence things. What worked for me might not work for you and vice versa. If you tried any of these please leave your comments below!

 

Cover FX Contour Kit in Medium

A contour palette would make any beauty box unboxing incredibly exciting. However, this is where Cohorted get’s it wrong. It does not give the opportunity to create a personal beauty profile which means that they send the same items to everyone and as you can imagine, they won’t work for all. The contour kit I got is in medium shades which would be too dark for me.

As a result, this palette which retails for £40 is a complete waste to me. I didn’t want to swatch it as I am not going to be using it for myself and so I’m keeping it new in case I can find someone who might give it some love.

It’s a real shame because otherwise the palette looks great and I love the packaging of it. It comes with a nice big mirror and four different shades. One lighter contour, one darker, a highlighter and an illuminator. It really looks like a great palette with good utility, too bad I can’t use it.

It is paraben, fragrance, gluten, mineral oi and talc free.

Since I haven’t tried this item I cannot score it.

 

Beauty Edit Mayfair Brow Setter

Whether you fill in your brows or keep them natural, a brow setter is very useful in keeping the hairs together.

This hair setter comes in an all gold outer packaging which I personally didn’t like. Brow setters get very dirty from cleaning makeup off your brows and so it is highly beneficial to be able to see the liquid in order to know when it is time to get a new one. From experience, brow setters get too dirty much faster than they run out so you have to throw them away at that unsanitary point. But how will you know when you can’t see inside?!

On the plus side, the want is very good. It’s big, fluffy and has a nice almond like shape. The brow setter itself smells nice and sweet, a bit like fruit meets cosmetic and has an easy to work with clear liquid texture.

It doesn’t make the eye brows feel sticky or hard and the hairs look very natural. No one would know there is something on your brows and neither would you. It works pretty well and it truly does keep the brow hairs in check.

It is meant to last 6M although I would suggest you throw it away after a month. This is a full size brow setter which retails for £25. It contains vitamins B5 and E as well as castor oil. SCORE = 9/10

 

Beauty Edit Mayfair Brow Lift

I don’t often like pencils because they tend to be too harsh. However, this brow lift pencil works very well. It is super creamy which means it applies softly and blends easily.

It is meant to be a highlighter pencil but you can use it in many ways. You can shape your eye brows, lighten the areas around the eyes and even use it as a concealer. The only drawback is that it doesn’t fully dry so you might have to set it otherwise every time you touch your face it will come off.

I love the way it looks, the wood look really suits the “natural” shade of this pencil and the gold cap and writing compliments it well.

This is a full size pencil which lasts for a whopping 36M and retails for £24. I am surprised by this one but it’s great. SCORE = 8/10

 

Beauty Edit Mayfair Highlighter Brush

Usually it’s disappointing when a beauty box contains two or more items from the same brand, however, this trio is exciting. It feels like a little bundle and there is something satisfying about having a makeup line collection.

This brush works well with the above pencil and it even works well with eyeshadows. You are meant to use it as a brow defining brush but you can use it in any way you like really. It washes well and it is soft.

The only drawback is the length of the brush. It’s not very long which I personally don’t like but on the plus side, it’s easy to travel with.

This brush retails for £18 which is a lot for a brush so you are essentially paying for the name of the brand. SCORE = 8/10

 

Overall, this month’s Cohorted wasn’t great. It was missing an item, the other item wasn’t the right shade and so it’s useless. As a result, this month’s Cohorted was essentially a three item box. Those three items though were of high quality.

 Initial box score, in terms of products and first feelings = 7/10

Overall box score after product testing (a sum of product scores) = 8.3/10
