Beauty Product Discovery – Cohorted Beauty Box Doucce Special Edition June 2018 – Unboxing and Product Reviews

The last four months of Cohorted were a bit of a shambles but gosh did they make up for it this month! What a box! I can tell you now this will definitely be the beauty box of the year.

Cohorted June 2018 12_20180625140953217

The Cohorted June 2018 box was an exclusive Doucce curation which included only Doucce products. Whether you like Doucce or feel indifferent, a box of 6 full size makeup items would surely have made your day.

I’m not surprised by the Doucce collaboration, Cohorted has been including Doucce products quite often, but I didn’t expect a box full of Doucce products. It’s a great idea and it makes for an amazing box of high value (£146) and full of makeup!

The Cohorted box was as always the standard black, square box that closes magnetically and ties with a ribbon. The box also came with it’s monthly, small beauty magazine (about 30 pages) that tells you a little bit more about each product and some featured products or artists.

Cohorted June 2018 contained 6 full size Doucce products, from left to right as seen in the picture: a mascara, a flexible palette which includes a highlighter, a brow pencil, an eye liner, a lip liner and a lipstick.

Let’s have a look at the products in more detail. These are short reviews that cover first impressions and experiences from using the products. For full reviews, including ingredient analysis and if I would recommend a product or not, check out: Bonds of Beauty (all articles here). Bear in mind that these are my personal opinions and that beauty is a very personal thing, we all have different skin, requirements and biological build which can influence things. Doucce Maxlash Volumiser Mascara In Black

The packaging of this mascara is a matte black plastic which looks fairly simple but still elegant. The wand is nicely thick, easy to use and the actual mascara smells like a typical mascara.

This mascara applied easily and it created monster lashes! My lashes were very, very long and looked almost fake, in a good way, but unfortunately they were not any thicker. I personally prefer mascaras that create long AND thick lashes but this one was amongst the best long lashes mascaras. This mascara did not clump my lashes and it didn’t smudge.

The lashes diminished a little over time (became smaller and fell lower) but that is fairly natural and there are only very few mascaras out there that last all day long while looking exactly as in the first few seconds of application.

This full size 11.5mL mascara lasts for 12M (which is much longer than the 2-3 month recommended time of using a mascara, see Should we be using expired make up? What are the guidelines for the correct use of cosmetics?) and it retails for £17 which is a good price. This is a good mascara for sure which even contains vitamin E and although I will definetely use it to it’s last drop I think I still prefer the Tarte Gifted Amazonian Clay Limited Edition Smart Mascara, the Too Faced Better than Sex and my ultimate favourite the Marc Jacobs Velvet Noir. SCORE = 8/10

Doucce Freematic Combo Pro Palette

Cohorted has included a Doucce Freematic palette before, in their Cohorted October 2017 box, however, these are so useful that the more you get the merrier!

This palette is magnetic and the Doucce eye shadows (and even highlighters and blushes) come in little magnetic trays that you can mix and match and place in palettes as you wish. They are so useful, practical and adjustable. You can buy the shadows or highlighters etc on their own (which come with a lid on top so they are safe to store on their own too) and create your own palette or choose which colours to take on a trip etc. Super adjustable, super useful.

This palette came with a highlighter, two blushes, two shimmer shadows and two mattes all of which contain vitamin E. The colours are gorgeous, they blend easily, even though their texture is more on the powdery side, do not crease and last all day if you use an eye shadow primer. The Doucce eye shadows are definitely worth a try, especially due to the Freematic palettes.

There are no colour names under the colour pans, only some numbers, and the only way to see the actual colour name is by keeping the outer packaging handy or to look up that number on Doucce’s website.

Overall, this palette is great and of good quality (no streaky powders) and the only drawback I experienced was the small size of the blushes. Depending on what type of brush you use (or if you use a brush at all) to apply your blush, it can be annoying as the typical big fluffy blush brushes will get in the other surrounding colours too and you will end up looking a little…tricolore! You can avoid this by placing them on the edge of the palette or using a smaller brush or sponge or even your fingers.

This full size palette retails for 50 which is a steep price but the fact that it is so adjustable and reusable might just be worth it. SCORE =9/10

Doucce Brow Filler Pencil In Colour Ash Brown

This double ended brow tool contains a brow pencil in the colour ash brown and a brow brush. The pencil’s colour sounds better than it looks, as it appears to be a brown with a green undertone which is a little strange.

Both pencil and brush are soft enough to not be aggresive on the brow hairs but yet firm enough to style them. They both work very well I’m just not sure about the colour yet!

The pencil generally looks nice and elegant and is easy to work with. It doesn’t smudge but can easily be deleted out if you rub it.

This full size 1.25g pencil lasts for 12M and retails for £17 which is not too bad. SCORE = 8/10

Doucce Fierce & Fine Graphic Eyeliner Pen In Black

I personally prefer brush tip liquid liners, to felt tip ones, as they are in general less streaky and for me, easier to control. Nevertheless, this one works well for a felt tip liner (although it feels more “scratchy” on the eye than a brush liner) and creates black (but not pitch black) lines.

It was a little streaky at times (and it feathers, see picture below) but I find that with all felt tip liners. It doesn’t smudge but it fades away if you rub it. It doesn’t wash off if water is splashed on it but of course it washes off quickly if you rub it with water.

Doucce Fierce & Fine Graphic Eyeliner Pen In Black 4_20180625135400805

This full size 1.1mL eyeliner lasts for 6M and retails for £16 which is within the felt tip eye liner typical price.

I still love the Nyx Professional Matte Liquid Eyeliner the most, which creates proper black lines, lasts all day and has a brush tip and costs only £6. SCORE =7/10

Doucce Lip Definer Pencil In Colour Lyra

On first glance this lip colour pencil doesn’t really match the lip stick although, I guess this highly depends on what type of colours you match with your lipsticks or if you always use the same colour for both.

After wearing both together I actually thought that the lip liner complimented the lipstick well so don’t judge a colour by…it’s colour sometimes you just have to try them together and see.

Nevertheless, this lip liner is easy to use, it glides effortlessly around the lips and doesn’t feel aggressive or “scratchy”. It lasts as long as other lip liners and doesn’t smear.

This full size 1.25g lip liner lasts for 12M and retails for £15 which is a standard price. SCORE = 8/10

Doucce Matte Temptation Lipstick In Colour First Date

I wasn’t too sure about this colour but again sometimes you just have to try and see. It’s actually a really nice nude shade with a brown undertone and it works really well for a casual or professional look. I wouldn’t go on a date with a brown toned nude lipstick though, as it’s colour name might suggest. If you want to know why check out: Exploring the red lipstick effect. Does it really attract men?

Doucce Lip Definer Pencil and lipstick_20180625121211525

The bullet packaging is nice and it stands out. It’s actually reflective enough to see your lips and you can use the top lid as a mirror to apply your lipstick. Product feature right there! The lipstick is held magnetically and the bullet has the typical shape. There is also a “d” carved on the lipstick bullet which is a nice little touch.

When applied on the lips it feels absolutely amazing. It is super buttery and feels very moisturising without making the lips feel heavy or sticky. The colour lasts a while but of course like with any lipstick, it fades when eating or drinking.

Unfortunately, it doesn’t contain any particularly nourishing ingredients.

This full size 3.8g lipstick lasts for 12M and retails for £18 which is a couple of pounds more expensive than an Urban Decay or Mac lipstick, and although it’s buttery texture feels nicer than the latter two, they at least contain some skin nourishing ingredients whereas the Doucce one doesn’t. In terms of value for money, I’d still recommend the Urban Decay or Mac lipsticks over this one for this reason but this one was a very good lipstick nevertheless. SCORE = 8/10

Cohorted June 2018 6_20180625140430112

Overall, this box was AMAZING. If you weren’t intrigued by Doucce before I’m sure you are now! It’s definitely a brand that seems to be making good products but at the same time it doesn’t feel like a top notch brand that I’d find many “Ride or Die” products either. That’s just a feeling though and I’m looking forward to being wrong. Either way if Cohorted boxes were like this one every month, Cohorted would have had millions of subscribers, because if nothing else this box was an amazing value for money (£35 payed vs £146 worth).

Initial box score, in terms of products and first feelings = 12!/10

Overall box score after product testing (a sum of product scores) = 8/10

Star product = Doucce Freematic Combo Pro Palette
