Beauty Product Discovery – Glossybox Beauty Box August 2018 – Unboxing and Porduct Reviews

Glossybox was the fourth beauty box to arrive this month and even though it’s usually one of the first, this wasn’t a disappointment at all because…what a gorgeous box!

Glossybox August 2018 11_20180813111129865

This month Glossybox went for a pride theme, standing together and embracing individuality. It’s the first beauty box in the UK (at least out of the 5 I subscribe to) to have ever gone for a pride theme and I absolutely love it. Good job Glossybox! However, what I love even more it that they didn’t go for a designed box but rather they painted the pride colours on their iconic pink Glossybox. This almost embodies the fact that this is not just a themed box but rather is a part of the Glossybox community. I love it! It even came with a lovely pride themed ribbon and a pride heart under the box lid.

Glossybox promotes vibrancy, love and liberty in their international community and celebrates #loveislove.

This month’s box contained 6 products, 1 more than normal, of which ALL were full size! The products were, as seen in the picture, from left to right: a face mask, a highlighter, an eye shadow, a lip and cheek tint, sticker tattoos and a stamp pen.

Let’s have a look at the products in more detail. These are short reviews that cover first impressions and experiences from using the products. For full reviews, including ingredient analysis and if I would recommend a product or not, check out: Bonds of Beauty (all articles here). Bear in mind that these are my personal opinions and that beauty is a very personal thing, we all have different skin, requirements and biological build which can influence things. What worked for me might not work for you and vice versa, please leave your comments below!

Victoria’s Secret Pink Selfie Skin Nourishing Sheet Mask

Glossybox often includes products from brands that other beauty boxes don’t get, like this time Victoria Secret.

This face mask is meant to soften your skin and give you an insta-complexion perfection. All you are meant to do is place it on dry, clean skin for 15 minutes and then remove and massage any excess product in. No need to rinse after.

This mask contains some interesting ingredients but also many of them in very small amounts. Nevertheless, this mask feels very nice and cooling on the skin. It’s big and flexible enough to fit most faces shapes and sizes and it is absolutely drenched with product.

It has a very, very faint scent of something that I can’t determine but it’s neither pleasant or unpleasant. You likely won’t even smell it.

The mask felt really nice but like with many masks, I didn’t see any difference to my skin. This doesn’t necessarily mean it didn’t do anything, skincare takes time and can be beneficial on a molecular level which you might not immediately see. However, I do wonder if this mask would be more effective if it contained some of the ingredients, such as hyaluronic acid, in higher quantities.

This mask is full size, Pink Nation approved and retails for £5. SCORE = 7/10

Kaleido Cosmetics Astrolight Highlighter

I admit, as soon as a read the name I laughed. I laughed because usually when we talk about highlighter I often say “this highlighter won’t blind planes” and it has almost become a phrase I use to “judge” a highlighter by.

As cheesy as the astrolight name might sound, gosh will this highlighter blind birds, planes and whatever else is up there! This product is a HIGHLIGHTER with all capitals. I mean, hat off to you Kaleido, this is a blinding highlighter. If you are looking for a natural highlighter, this is not for you.

Other than absolutely gorgeous, this highlighter also doesn’t smudge and it doesn’t go away with a simple swipe. It lasts all day and it looks even more gorgeous as an eye shadow.

It comes with outer packaging and in a plastic bottle of good quality which looks simple but elegant. The highlighter bottle comes with a wand of standard quality that you can use to apply the highlighter with. The product itself also smells very pleasant, like something fruity.

It even says on the packaging “No kidding, no crazy marketing talk, this is the real deal” and I can confirm this is true. We will not speak of this product as a highlighter again but rather as “astrolight”.

It is cruelty free, vegan and gluten free. This full size product lasts for 18M and retails for £13, an amazingly good price for a bottle of almost literal astrolight. SCORE = 10/10

3INA The Shadow Paint 703

I absolutely love the packaging of this product. It looks like normal paint but it is an eye shadow and somehow I really like this concept. It gives an artistic feel to it which is also what makeup can be about.

I love the blue colour but although it is beautiful, it took a couple of coats to get it fully even. It is a little streaky and despite shaking the tube a couple of times, the first few mL of product were more watery than the rest.

The shadow dries up completely and quickly without feeling heavy or sticky. It lasts all day and doesn’t crease (but I always wear an eye shadow primer). I think this product would work best as a “hint of colour” than a full lid, because it can be a little uneven, so try this as a line under your bottom water line, to give that little pop of colour.

This is a cruelty free eye shadow that lasts for 12M. This 12mL tube is a full size product and retails for £8.95. SCORE = 8/10

Trifle Cosmetics Lip and Cheek Jam in colour Dark Cherry

Trifle Cosmetics makes some cute products and this is not an exception. Even the outer packaging it comes in looks cute!

The actual product comes in a little glass bottle with a glass dropper and it’s very easy to use. All you need to do is take a drop or two and work into your cheeks or lips to give a little hint of colour.

The colour is not very intense at all, it’s more like the natural redness of the skin, but you can layer it to a slightly more intense look.

The only annoying thing about this product is the fact that when you take out the dropper and try to put it back in the bottle, you can accidentally push a lot of the product out by forming air bubbles. This is probably due to the slight gelly nature of the liquid and the fact that it is filled almost all the way up (who knew that this could be a drawback). Nevertheless, after you use this 2-3 times and you create a little space in the bottle you likely won’t have this problem anymore.

This is a true tint, not as pigmented as a lot of products named as tints these days. It looks very natural and it is also cruelty free. It is 78% water, 99% natural, contains no mineral oil, no parabens, no phthalates, no gluten, is hypoallergic, non-comedogenic and safe for contact wearers. This product has a very faint scent of something that I couldn’t determine.

This 6mL product is full size, lasts for 12M and retails for £17.50. I personally found this a little expensive considering this is just a tint and not an actual blush. SCORE = 8/10

Rimmel London Ink Me Sticker Tattoos

Well I definitely didn’t know that Rimmel does Sticker Tattoos, every day is a school day and a great example of why beauty boxes are a great beauty product discovery method.

I haven’t tried these sticker tattoos, I might actually keep them for someone who might enjoy them a bit more than me or a special occasion of dressing up.

These tattoos are apparently waterproof and last 4 days. All you need to do is remove the clear sheet and press the decorated side onto your skin. Then hold a wet cloth on top for 30 seconds before slowly peeling back the paper.

This is a full size product which retails for £4.99. Not a bad price!

For fairness, since I didn’t try this product I will not give it a score.

Rimmel London Ink Me Heart Stamp Tattoo Pen

Again, I wasn’t aware that Rimmel did stamp pens but even if I saw this product somewhere, it is the type of product that I wouldn’t buy. I would have probably thought this is a little beyond my age.

Nevertheless, since I now have it, I’ve tried it and I love it! One more point to beauty box product discovery!

This pen stamps black hearts which look super cute. They are very easy to create, all you need to do is literally just stamp the skin with the pen and allow a few minutes for the heart to dry. This product smells like pen ink.

Despite being in my 30s and not even thinking of buying this type of product, I admit, I’ve used this a few times already!

This 0.8mL pen is full size and retails for £4.99. Not a bad price! SCORE = 8/10
