Beauty Product Discovery – Glossybox September 2018 – Unboxing and Product Reviews

This month’s Glossybox came in its iconic pink box which I was actually really happy about! I’ve been using up these boxes for organisation, gifts and giveaways and I have been running out of the pink Glossyboxes! These boxes are sturdy, beautiful, of very good quality and in general so handy to have around.

Although the box didn’t have a special design, the products contained followed a “handbag essentials for a quick fix” theme. The products fit the theme and it was once again, overall a nice Glossybox. This box rarely disappoints which is why for a second year running it is still my favourite and the one I would recommend the most. I mean look at all these goodies, all for £13.25 including postage!

This month’s box contained 6 products as always, of which 5 were full size and 1 was a deluxe mini/travel size. The products were, as seen in the picture, from left to right: a face mask, a body mist, a scalp treatment, a lip liner, wet wipes and a brow cream.

Let’s have a look at the products in more detail. These are short reviews that cover first impressions and experiences from using the products. For full reviews, including ingredient analysis and if I would recommend a product or not, check out: Bonds of Beauty (all articles here). Bear in mind that these are my personal opinions and that beauty is a very personal thing, we all have different skin, requirements and biological build which can influence things. What worked for me might not work for you and vice versa, please leave your comments below!

Beauty Pro Detoxifying Bubbling Mask with Activated Charcoal

The mask came in a standard plastic one-off packaging that is typical of masks and it overall looks nice and professional. The mask face sheet is big enough to fit a fair amount of face sizes. It is very easy to use and has a pleasant smell.

The worst thing for me about this type of masks, the bubbling ones, is the itchiness. I’ve had this before with bubble masks, the bubbling effect can get itchy after a while! I don’t have sensitive skin or any allergies and my skin was not red or clearly irritated. As you wear the mask, it slowly foams up and you can feel the bubbles bursting on your skin. It’s not painful or bad in any way but it can be very itchy!

The mask contains charcoal and AHA complex which are great for cleaning your skin (not from a full face of makeup) and pores. It is suitable for acne prone skin, is dermatologically tested and the brand is against animal testing.

All you need to do is leave the mask on clean skin for 10 minutes and then wash your face with water. Overall, my skin felt clean, but not dry, and also smooth to the touch and it took away my face oils nicely.

This mask worked for me and the ingredients are very good, which means that this mask will clean but also nourish, to some extent, your skin.

Personally, I’m still not a fan of cleansing masks, when I do a mask I immediately think of nourishing the skin instead of cleaning, but if you like cleansing masks this is a great option.

I liked this mask and it did what it claimed. I also love the ingredients. This full size masks retails for £4.95. SCORE = 9/10

Wild Garden Pure & Fabulous Body Mist Waterlily

I must admit I don’t use body mists and this is a good example of a product that I wouldn’t have picked up myself but I have been enjoying since I got it from the box.

It smells fresh but light and the bottle looks nice too. It’s made of thin plastic but it feels appropriate and not very cheap.

I might even use this in boxes or decoration to add a slight floral, refreshing smell or maybe even on fresh clothes as a “conditioner” type of smell. How do YOU use a body mist?

This 100mL bottle is a full size product which lasts for 36M and retails for £14.85. I don’t think I would buy, it’s just not the type of thing I often use, but I am thoroughly enjoying using it up. SCORE = 8/10

Grow Gorgeous Scalp Detox

I’ve used this product before (Look Fantastic Beauty Advent Calendar 2017) and although I really liked it, I couldn’t really tell a difference on my hair or scalp (although that doesn’t mean that it doesn’t work), so I never considered purchasing it.

Nevertheless, this product smells gorgeous! It has a strong sweet, cosmetic smell mixed with feminine perfume. I almost wish the body mist smelled like this or perhaps they make a perfume out of it!

You are meant to use this product as a pre-wash treatment on your scalp, 1-2 times a week. It cleanses and unclogs blocked pores that might disrupt hair and scalp health. It doesn’t foam up, so you end up using a lot until you are sure all of your scalp is cleansed but at least you don’t need to wait around like a hair mask, you can rinse it off immediately if you prefer. Lots of points from me there, I hate waiting around the shower for hair masks!

The tube looks and feels luxurious and it contains a fair amount of good ingredients, a lot more than I would expect for its price!

This product is paraben free, lasts for 12M and the 50mL mini retails for £7.37 (lasts 3-4 uses). The full size 190mL retails for £28. SCORE = 8/10

Karl Lagerfeld and ModelCo Lip Liner in Colour Rosewood

I haven’t been the biggest fan of ModelCo, I found most of their products to be mediocre, but I really liked this lip liner.

The outside of the pencil looks sleek and gorgeous, it even feels matte-smooth to the touch and it overall gives you that expensive feeling. I even like the hot pink packaging, it just all looks and feels great!

The pencil itself is buttery, slides easily and stays on the lips for a long time. I love the dark purple-pink colour of it too!

Other than the jojoba seed oil the rest of the ingredients are pretty standard, including vitamin E. The biggest drawback of this pencil is the fact that you will have to sharpen it and with that you will probably loose some product in the process (TIP: Put lip and eye pencils in the freezer for a few hours before sharpening).

This 1.5g pencil is a full size, cruelty free product which lasts for 12M and retails for £25. SCORE = 9/10

Wet Ones Be Fresh Antibacterial Wipes

This is not a direct beauty product per say, these wipes are not for removing makeup, so I can see why some might be a little disappointed after receiving this. However, I am not disappointed at all. It’s a product that is very practical and useful in your handbag and since this month’s box already contains 5 beauty products (this is product number 6), you are not missing out on anything! It’s essentially a “secondary beauty product”.

These wipes smell nice, work well and are very handy. The packaging is resealable, and the wipes do not dry out. It is said to kill 99.9% of bacteria in 5 minutes (not viruses or other organisms), is gentle on the skin and is suitable for hands and body.

This product is dermatologist tested and pH balanced, contains 12 wipes and it retails for £1.19. Definitely something you should have in your handbag. SCORE = 9/10

Bang Beauty Eyebrow Cream in Colour Milk Chocolate

This eyebrow cream comes in a gorgeous looking box and inside a nice-looking glass pot which is complimented with a tiny angle-cut brow brush.

I’ve said this before for this type of packaging but I still can’t get over it, the glass pot looks lovely but it gives you the illusion that there is much more product than there is. If you look at this pot from the side, it is all transparent glass, so the entire product is contained just underneath the lid. This means that the pot is twice the size that it needs to be, which might give you the feeling of a bigger size product. If you have other products in this type of packaging and you put them all next to each other, you will not know which one contains what, as the actual product is completely covered under the lid.

Bang Beauty Eyebrow Cream in Colour Milk Chocolate 2_20180917125817987

On the bright side, this type of packaging looks aesthetically beautiful and expensive.

The brow cream works well and lasts for a while. I like that it comes with its own tiny cute brush, even if its not the best one. The brush is soft but almost a little too soft for this type of application.

Bang Beauty Eyebrow Cream in Colour Milk Chocolate 3_20180917125849801

The ingredients are fairly standard and other than 2 types of wax (which are standard and found in a lot of products) nothing else is even worth mentioning.

This is a full size product which retails for £16.80. SCORE = 7/10

Glossybox September 2018 7_20180917124918268

Overall, this month’s box was again amazing value for money. Glossybox is an excellent way to quickly build up a beauty collection for cheap, while at the same time trying out many new products that you wouldn’t always pick up yourself.

Initial box score, in terms of products and first feelings = 8/10

Overall box score after product testing (average of product scores) = 8.3/10

Star product = Karl Lagerfeld and ModelCo Lip Liner in Colour Rosewood

I feel as though there is something… Childish (?) about Body Mists – they remind me of being a teenager and go with butterfly clips and sticky lipgloss as things I will never willingly spend my money on again. I just prefer perfume in fancy bottles that makes me feel sophisticated and elegant. It’s a mental block I suppose…

I really liked this months box. I got the body lotion instead of the mist which is really nice it glides onto the skin is quite wateryin texture but doesn’t leave the skin feeling sticky like some body lotions do.
