Cohorted is usually the last beauty box to arrive, around the mid-end of the month, but it is usually worth the wait. It retails for £35 though which makes it a high-end box and so you’d expect it to be worth the wait!
This month’s Cohorted box was as always the standard black, square box that closes magnetically and ties with a ribbon. The box always comes with a monthly, small beauty magazine (about 30 pages) that contains a little bit more about each product and some featured products or artists.
Cohorted September 2018 contained five full size products, two travel size and two sample size, from left to right as seen in the picture: two face masks and one eye mask, a day face cream, an eye shadow, two lipsticks and a contour palette (and a perfume card).
Let’s have a look at the products in more detail. These are short reviews that cover first impressions and experiences from using the products. Bear in mind that these are my personal opinions and that beauty is a very personal thing, we all have different skin, requirements and biological build which can influence things. What worked for me might not work for you and vice versa, please leave your comments below!

Biocell Face and Eye Masks
It’s usually disappointing when a beauty box contains more than one item of the same type, unless it’s lipsticks or masks. When it comes to these two type of items, the more the merrier! Are you with me?
These Biocell masks look simple but elegant and all felt really relaxing and nice to the skin. All you need to do, for all of them, is apply them on clean skin and wait for 15-20 minutes. No need to rinse off or wipe. Allow any excess liquid to be absorbed by the skin.
I didn’t notice anything amazing on my skin after using any of them, but that is true for almost all masks. Face masks are meant to give your skin a little extra nourishment, they are not supposed to be your main skincare, and so you cannot expect amazing instant results. To use Paula Begoun’s accurately put analogy, you cannot diet for one day and expect to have a nice body. Same goes for masks.
All masks felt nice and contain some interesting ingredients. The regenerating mask is a little more nourishing than the hyaluronic acid one, it even actually also contains hyaluronic acid (and potentially more of it?). All three masks left the skin soft but if you can only afford one, the Biocell Regenerating face mask seems to have better ingredients (although it contains alcohol).
Overall, these are not the best masks’ I’ve ever seen or tried, ingredient wise, but they are also not the worse. I’d rank them somewhere around mediocre to good, with the Regenerating one having the most potential.
All masks are a one-off full size product and all retail for £4.99 (not £6 as the Cohorted magazine states). SCORE = 7/10
Lancôme Absolue Premium Regenerating and Replenishing Care SPF15
This day cream smells really nice, with a cream meets lemon type of scent. It feels nice on the skin, is absorbed quickly and doesn’t leave any residues behind.
It is only classed as a day cream because of the contained SPF 15 protection, there are no “day specific ingredients” in it otherwise.
It is meant to regenerate the skin’s youthful radiance while moisturising and replenishing. There are definitely some great ingredients in this cream, but mostly some very standard ones, and I wish the sample wasn’t so small so that I would be able to use it for a while and get a better impression.
I often avoid judging samples too hard because you really can’t tell much from a couple of uses and sometimes the samples can smell, feel or act differently from the full size products! Has this ever happened to you?
This is a free sample that you can get from the brand’s counters, it even says “free not for sale” at the back. It’s absolutely fine to include samples in beauty boxes but not when they are counted as a product and definitely not when they are valued at £10. Come on Cohorted!
This cream has some potential but it’s definitely not the most nourishing one your money could buy. This product lasts for 12M. SCORE = 7/10
NARS Dual-Intensity Eyeshadow – Andromeda
I usually hate single eye shadows because they often get forgotten into a drawer but I like this one because it’s so nicely packaged and it’s a very usable every day colour.
The packaging of the actual eye shadow is really nice. It’s a matte black plastic box which has a slight silky feeling to it. Inside there is a mirror as big as the lid, which is something that doesn’t happen very often in single eye shadows. The actual eyeshadow has a line pattern on it which makes it pretty but also harsh to the touch.
Neverthelss, this eye shadow is a soft pinky-nude shimmery colour that you could use to highlight your inner eye corners or brow bone, or even use as a cheek bone highlighter!
The shadow is branded as a “dual-intensity” eye shadow with a classy sheer finish when applied dry or a high-impact finish when applied wet. I think this is a little bit of an over-sell here from NARS, most eye shadows are essentially dual-intensity if you put it that way, as most eye shadows will look more intense when applied wet (with a setting spray) and more natural when applied dry.
This eye shadow is beautiful and works well but it’s more on the powdery than buttery side. This is a full size single eye shadow which retails for £21. Considering the powdery texture and the fact that this is no different than “normal” shadows that also will also apply different when wet, I’d say that the price is too high. This product lasts for 18M. SCORE = 7/10
Benefit They’re Real Double The Lip Lipstick in Colour Lusty Rose
I really like the concept of this lipstick, that it includes the “lip liner” or lip contour part as well. The lipstick has teardrop shape and the outer corner is a darker colour than the inner one. This means that as you slide this lipstick on your lips, your lip will be lined as if you just used a lip liner. The result looks really great and it’s very easy to use.
One drawback is the fact that you have to hold the lipstick upside down in order to use it on the bottom lip. However, the biggest negative of this product is the fact that it will not work for all lip sizes and shapes. If you lip is thicker than the lip bullet you will need to fill it in with only the bottom colour by tilting the product. This means that eventually you might not use up the outer and inner lip colour at the same time which makes it harder and harder to use with time. You can also imagine similar difficulties if your lips are thinner than the lip bullet, you will end up using the “liner” colour on most of the lip or look like you lined your lips too thick.
Nevertheless, this is a nice lipstick (love the colour) which is neither moisturising or drying. It lasts for some time but it definitely doesn’t compare to the top lipstick longevities, like the MAC or Urban Decay lipsticks for example. It of course comes off when eating or drinking, like any lipstick, but it overall looks very nice.
The packaging definitely looks great but bear in mind it is plastic that is made to look like metal. The lipstick has a sweet and pleasant smell.
The brand has a couple of colours to choose from, including some nice reds but the range of these is not extensive. This is a travel size lipstick (0.75g) which retails for £10.50 not £17 as the Cohorted magazine states (that’s the full size 1.5g one). SCORE = 8/10
Clinique Pop Lip Colour & Primer in Colour 14 Plum Pop
This is a super cute, travel size lipstick and lip primer in one that has a semi-matte or creamy matte finish.
It is full coverage and the colour is gorgeous (the brand has a few pinks, browns and reds to choose from).
This lipstick contains some interesting ingredients, even hyaluronic acid, which doesn’t happen often in lipsticks. It is allergy tested, fragrance free and feels really moisturising on the lips. It almost feels like putting butter on your lips, this might just make it into my “best lipsticks for dry lips” list. It does feel slightly sticky though but nothing major.
It lasts for a while but of course comes off when eating or drinking. The packaging is plastic and feels cheap but it is a travel size product so all is forgiven.
If you have dry lips or in general if you want to condition, moisturise and nourish your lips as well as give them some nice colour, you are going to love this one.
This is a “not for sale” mini but it would retail around £10 as the full size retail for £17. Not a bad price for the ingredients and what it does! SCORE = 9/10
Bellápierre Cosmetics Cream Contour Palette in Medium
This is a good example of what happens to beauty boxes that do not offer a personal profile, where you can tell them your skin shade, skin issues, hair type and colour etc. I’ve actually even received this from Cohorted before, in the Cohorted July 2017 box.
I am definitely not a medium colour, I have a light-pale skin tone, but I have actually tried this very palette before and although I like how buttery and smooth the formulation is, I thought that the colours are on the “orange side”. This might be because they are way too dark for me to begin with and they might not look that bad on you.
Nevertheless, the palette is actually a nice starting point if you are new to contouring. You can even remove the colours, they are held in magnetically, that you are not using and place something else, like some highlighters for example from another Bellápierre or other palette.
The palette doesn’t smell of anything and it even came with instructions on how to contour depending on your face shape. A nice added bonus.
This palette retails for £40 (not £45 as the Cohorted magazine states) but I actually noticed it quite often at TKMax for £10!
This is a good palette and the only downside for me was the shades of colours. This palette lasts for 24M. SCORE = 9/10
Giorgio Armani Si Perfume
The box also contained one of those magazine one-off, slide open, perfume samples of the Giorgio Armani Si perfume. The perfume has a feminine, “medium heaviness” scent with a slight floral accent.
I won’t judge this product as it completely down to personal taste and is a one-off, not really, sample size. Cohorted didn’t include this product in their evaluation which is great. Samples are welcome, just don’t count them as products in the box’s value!
Overall, I thought that this month’s Cohorted box was amazing. All products are interesting and will keep me using them for a while (except the sample size ones). I even may have found a new favourite lipstick formula for dry lips. However, Cohorted has once again over-valued their box at £119 when it’s actually worth £86.49. That’s still almost 2.5 times the money payed for the box (£35) which still makes it amazing value for money. Cohorted really needs, and it has made a habit out of this now, to stop over valuing their boxes.
