Beauty Product Discovery – Cohorted Beauty Box January 2019 – Unboxing and Product Reviews

Cohorted started out this year strong. This month’s box contained quite a lot of different products and of decent sizes too!

Cohorted doesn’t really follow a monthly theme but this month they focused on products to “kick start a radiant New Year” and it definitely fits the month as well as the products contained. Great stuff!

The Cohorted box was as always the standard black, square box that closes magnetically and ties with a ribbon. The box also came with it’s monthly, small beauty magazine (about 30 pages) that tells you a little bit more about each product and some featured products or artists.

Cohorted June 2019 contained 7 products, from left to right as seen in the picture: a face cream, a hand cream, a makeup primer, a liquid highlighter, a soap, a face cleanser and a night cream.

Let’s have a look at the products in more detail. These are short reviews that cover first impressions and experiences from using the products. For full reviews, including ingredient analysis and if I would recommend a product or not, check out: Bonds of Beauty (all articles here). Bear in mind that these are my personal opinions and that beauty is a very personal thing, we all have different skin, requirements and biological build which can influence things. What worked for me might not work for you and vice versa, please leave your comments below!

Argentum La Potion Infinie Hydrating Day & Night Cream

This cream is appropriate for both day and night (as most creams are) but it’s uniqueness comes from the fact that it contains colloidal (=small particles) silver and Sodium DNA. It also contains other ingredient goodies but unfortunately, also parfum, and has a noticeable perfume meets cream type of scent.

This cream is meant to provide anti-ageing effects, improving fine lines and wrinkles, firming and tightening while also having anti-bacterial and anti-flammatory effects.

It comes in really cute outer and inner packaging and it has a typical white cream consistency and scent. It spreads really easily on the skin and feels instantly moisturising. It gets absorbed quickly and doesn’t leave any residues behind.

Overall, its a good cream but since this is first impressions and not long-term usage, it is impossible to comment on whether or not it truly has anti-ageing effects.

This 14mL jar retails for £36 but lasts for only 8M. SCORE = 8/10

Jorgobé Hand Cream

This hand cream comes in cute, polka dot packaging and although the design of both the outer and actual packaging is simple, the product looks elegant.

jorgobé hand cream_20190113170313645This hand cream comes as a white cream with black dots in it which dissolve as you rub the cream in your hands.

It is said to provide up to 72 hours of moisturising protection which is amazing. However, the ingredients although good, they are not that impressive and there are other hand creams in the market that are more nourishing.

However, as soon as I used this cream I was completely wowed. This cream might not look like the best thing ever on paper but it definitely has a formulation that works. It feels so silky and instantly moisturising when your rub it in your hands and although it all gets absorbed in quickly, the skin doesn’t feel dry afterwards.

A very interesting product that I will have a closer look at! I am definitely impressed.

This 75mL tube retails for £18 and lasts for 12M. This product was the winner of the Danish Beauty Award 18. SCORE = 9/10

Too Faced Primed & Poreless Face Primer

too faced primed & poreless face primer_20190113170114854I’m very glad that Cohorted acknowledged that this is a sample size and not accounted this in the box’s value. Improvement from last years!

This primer has a slight pink shade and although it offers a slightly smoothing effect. It covers pores very nicely and also works well on the face (although this depends a lot on the foundation you are using – also make sure to let it “dry” first before adding foundation or other products on top).

In terms of pore primers, it contains some good ingredients such as vitamins A and C as well as retinol and it works well under makeup. It gets absorbed quickly and doesn’t add oils.

The full size product retails for £24. SCORE = 8/10

Seas of Illumination Rouge Bunny Rouge Highlighting fluid

I’m usually not a fan of liquid highlighters because they are often not as easy to use as the powder ones and the shine they create is not any better.

However, my oh my, will this highlighter blind planes! It looks gorgeous and has a very smooth silvery appearance.

The product comes with outer packaging which quite frankly annoyed me constantly, as the bottom opens and the product falls out all the time. So much so that I wasn’t sure if the product would make it intact by the time I write about it, but it somehow did! Nevertheless, the actual highlighter fluid comes in a very cute bottle with a lid attached to a straight wand that you can use to apply the product on the skin.

It takes a couple of minutes to dry but it does dry completely, something that not all liquid highlighters do. This one works though and dries like it should without loosing a lot of shine. It doesn’t add texture and doesn’t feel sticky. It fades away if you rub it but so do other highlighters.

This 15mL highlighter retails for £33 and lasts for 12M. SCORE = 10/10

Argentum Le Savon Lune Facial Cleansing Bar

This face soap is soap free and removes makeup. It took me a couple of washes to get a full face of makeup off but that’s usually the case with most cleansers.

argentum le savon lune facial cleansing bar_20190113164416392In general it worked well but it’s not a product I would buy or recommend. Soaps are annoying to use, store and are also unsanitary. Not to mention that most soaps usually have a basic pH which is the exact opposite of what our skin works best at.

This soap also contains colloidal silver and sodium DNA which seem to be the company’s signature ingredients.

This product claims to also tighten pores, be non-drying, non-comedogenic, anti-bacterial and anti-flammatory.

This is just a travel size soap which retails for £15. The full size one retails for a whopping £104! SCORE = 7/10

Perricone MD Blue Plasma Cleansing Treatment

perricone md blue plasma cleansing treatment_20190113165240656This product is a cleansing treatment with, what this brand calls, “blue plasma”. There isn’t an ingredient list on the product but I’m pretty sure the blue comes from a dye or coloured compound that probably does not play a skincare role (just to make it blue to add wow factor) and there is no plasma, at least as science defines it. This product hurts me a little as a scientist.

However, it worked very well and cleaned my skin nicely. While the entire experience was pleasant, it felt very medical. From the colour of the solution, the type of the bottle and even the smell. That’s not necessarily a bad thing but it’s neither the “feel beautiful” effect that most cosmetics give us.

This product is said to exfoliate, cleanse and also condition. This is a travel size, 58mL bottle which retails for £15. SCORE = 8/10

Avant Skincare Deluxe Hyaluronic Acid Vivifying Face & Eye Cream

This night cream has an off white colour, is very easy to spread and is absorbed by the skin quickly without leaving any residues behind. It has a cosmetic scent which is pleasant and it contains fragrance.

avant skincare deluxe hyaluronic acid vivifying face & eye cream_20190113164552983While some ingredients are definitely good the rest are fairly standard, meaning that this is not the best night cream your money could buy but definitely also not the worst. However, the price tag of £98 for this 50mL tube is unfounded, there are other cheaper creams that will provide you with better skincare.

On the plus side, my skin felt nice, soft and hydrated after using this cream. I’m not sure where the large price tag is coming from but the product doesn’t look the part (the tube design is a little boring) although at least it comes in a tube and not a jar.

This product is carbomer and paraben free and lasts for 12M. SCORE = 7/10

cohorted january 2019 4_20190113165201240

Overall, this month’s Cohorted was a great start to the year. It contained a lot of products, of decent size and of great interest. I might have found some new favourites here. Not to mention that Cohorted actually valued all the items correctly! This months box was indeed worth £215 which is amazing.

Initial box score, in terms of products and first feelings = 9/10

Overall box score after product testing (average of product scores) = 8.1/10

Star product = Jorgobé Hand Cream
