The romantic aspect of February is such a great opportunity for makeup. Any excuse for nice makeup right? Sadly, Glossybox didn’t deliver this month which is very rare as it is almost always great but unfortunately they really picked the wrong month to be boring!
This month’s theme was “It’s all about love” and although the box design was absolutely gorgeous the contents were underwhelming.
Let’s focus on the box design though because it truly was gorgeous. The lid was white with the theme in black writing and the box itself had a red and pink hear pattern. Such a simple yet beautiful box that I will definitely keep around for a while.
This month’s box contained 7 products, of which 4 were full size, 1 travel size and 2 samples. The products were, as seen in the picture, from left to right: 2 perfume samples, a nail varnish, a toothpaste, a fan brush, a face mask and a lip liner.+
Let’s have a look at the products in more detail. These are short reviews that cover first impressions and experiences from using the products. For full reviews, including ingredient analysis and if I would recommend a product or not, check out: Bonds of Beauty (all articles here). Bear in mind that these are my personal opinions and that beauty is a very personal thing, we all have different skin, requirements and biological build which can influence things. What worked for me might not work for you and vice versa, please leave your comments below!
Alien Fusion for Man and Woman
Samples are a good thing but only when added as an extra which in this care they are. I was initially confused by the fact that they included both the male and female perfume but then found the idea of sharing with your loved one quite cute.
Even though smell and especially, choosing a perfume, is a very personal type of thing, I was planning on describing the scents of the perfumes. However, even after pressing the sample pumps for 10 times + nothing came out. The samples are either empty (couldn’t hear any liquid inside) or the pumps don’t work very well. Either way it’s not great. What a disappointment.
Nails Inc Nail Varnish in Colour Status Ready
This item definitely fits the love theme and the colour is absolutely gorgeous. Status ready is a deep wine red, almost burgundy colour. The bottle is also beautiful but simple and thankfully the big decorational lid comes off which makes it easier to use the product.
This nail varnish smells like a typical varnish and also lasts typically, 2-3 days. How long a varnish lasts highly depends on the top protective layer you use and not so much on the quality of the colour varnish itself.
This is a full size nail varnish, 14mL, which retails for £15. SCORE = 9/10.
Regenerate Enamel Science Advanced Toothpaste
I’ve received this product quite a few times now, it seems like the brand is working really hard in getting the toothpaste noticed.
This toothpaste arrived sealed which is lovely. It is supposed to be an advanced toothpaste that repairs your tooth’s enamel, to an extent, by reversing the erosion process. Like any other toothpaste it smells fresh and feels like a typical toothpaste.
I can’t say that I noticed any “repair” but this is the sort of thing that even if it works it is done on a molecular level, so you wouldn’t always notice or at least not right away. You might get an improvement in the “cold” or “warm” feeling on your teeth. The packaging is a standard tube and the branding is very clear.
There isn’t much writing on it at the front, it has a fair amount of white space which makes it look quite clinical. But I guess that is what you want and expect from a toothpaste. It looks the part for sure.
This is a travel size, 14mL, but the full size 75mL, retails for £10. An expensive toothpaste for sure, especially considering there are other much cheaper, repairing toothpaste options. I guess it mostly depends which one you feel or see it working best for you. SCORE = 7/10.
Luxie Beauty Medium Fan Brush 560
This is a full size brush which retails for £15. It is well made, looks and feels nice and the bristles are arranged well. It feels soft, distributes product well and washes nicely.
Fan brushes are mostly known for their highlighter applications but I am a firm believer of using a brush as it feels comfortable to you. I personally did like it for highlighting but I usually prefer a slightly thicker brush.
Overall, it’s a good product but I must admit it felt disappointing to find in this month’s box and especially it being a fan brush, Glossybox has include some of those before. SCORE = 9/10
Vitamasques Rose Gold Dust Sheet Mask
This is meant to be a luxurious Korean face sheet mask with gold dust and rose extract. You are mean to place it on clean skin for 20 minutes and then remove, without the need to rinse.
The sheet is standard and it will fit most face shapes and sizes. The mask made my skin feel soft and moisturised.
The gold dust definitely makes this mask feel exciting but when you look at the ingredients contained, this mask is actually mediocre. If you ignore some good ingredients the rest are just standard skin conditioners and moisturisers and there is nothing luxurious about that.
It’s not a bad mask at all and there are definitely some good skincare ingredients in it, but it is not as luxurious as it sounds. There are other masks in the market that have better skincare value (but also worse).
This mask contains 20mL of product, is paraben and animal cruelty free. It does contain alcohol though to higher quantities than most ingredients as it comes fourth in the list! It also contains parfum.
This mask retails somewhere between £3-5, depending on the supplier. SCORE = 7/10
Huda Beauty Lip Contour in Colour Flirt
I was really looking forward to this item, as it was the previous’ month preview product, and it didn’t disappoint.
The pencil looks gorgeous but sadly it’s one that you will need to sharpen and I personally don’t like that! Even if you freeze the pencils they never sharpen up as nicely pointy as the beginning and you often loose a lot of product while trying to sharpen them.
Nevertheless, the colour of this pencil is very wearable. The colour flirt is a dark brown with pink undertones. Not a colour I would call flirty but nevertheless a relatively easy to wear one. The lip liner is buttery and slides on the lips easily. It comes off when eating or drinking but that is true for all lip liners. The product works well and has a very subtle buttery pencil scent that you will most likely not smell at all.
This is a full size lip liner, 1.20g, which lasts for 24M and retails for £16. SCORE = 9/10
Overall, this month’s box design was absolutely gorgeous and on point but the products contained were disappointingly out of theme. Glossybox rarely disappoints but out of all the months to deliver a slightly boring box, February really shouldn’t have been it. On the plus side though, it is still evident what a good quality and value for money box Glossybox is, as the products all rated quite well.
Initial box score, in terms of products and first feelings = 6/10
Overall box score after product testing (average of product scores) = 8.2/10
Star product = Huda Beauty Lip Contour in Colour Flirt
