Glossybox March 2019 – Unboxing and Product Reviews

Glossybox March 2019 was all about self-empowerment and at this time of the year, we are all starting to need some!

The beauty box also came with a new style cardboard leaflet that has some information about the products contained. Although it’s not a huge change, the box felt refreshed and dare I say, empowered. Sadly, the products contained were the opposite of that.

This month’s box contained 5 products as always, of which 4 were full size and the other was travel size. The products were, as seen in the picture, from left to right: a liquid lipstick, a highlighter, a moisturiser, a lip plumper balm and a makeup primer.

Let’s have a look at the products in more detail. These are short reviews that cover first impressions and experiences from using the products. For full reviews, including ingredient analysis and if I would recommend a product or not, check out: Bonds of Beauty (all articles here). Bear in mind that these are my personal opinions and that beauty is a very personal thing, we all have different skin, requirements and biological build which can influence things. What worked for me might not work for you and vice versa, please leave your comments below!

Bellápierre Kiss Proof Lip Créme in Hibiscus

I’m really not a fan of liquid lipsticks because they are, most of the time, drying to the lips and come off when you eat or drink, which leaves little to no advantage over a normal lipstick.

On the plus side though, this wasn’t as bad as most liquid lipsticks. It doesn’t feel drying but neither moisturising and it is kiss proof if you peck kiss. However, it doesn’t survive eating and drinking, or serious kissing. It doesn’t fall apart in an ugly way, it doesn’t come off in bits for example, like some liquid lipsticks end up doing, but the colour of it fades completely off some parts the lips (especially from inner lips and corners).

All and all I though it was on the better side of liquid lipsticks and I will use it up! Especially considering how absolutely stunning the colour Hibiscus is (the perfect red-pink-purple mix).

The wand is standard, the lipstick packaging feels a little cheap and the ingredients are as basic as it gets but the lipstick works well.

This is a full size 3.8g lipstick which lasts for 12M and retails for £20. SCORE = 8/10

Larizy Cosmetics Dew Pot in Utopia

This is a beautiful cream highlighter in a golden-rose colour. It applies easily and looks beautiful. You could even use it as a shimmery blush or an eyeshadow, if you set it so it doesn’t crease.

The pot itself is cute looking but deceiving too as the product contained is about a third of the size of the pot, making you think there’s more than there actually is.

Nevertheless, this is a beautiful highlighter that I was even tempted to use on lips a couple of times. It’s full size at 3.5g, lasts for 12M and retails for £15.30. SCORE = 7/10

Lavera Basis Sensitiv All-Round Cream

This cream reminds me of old Nivea tins and there is something attractive but also a little outdated about that.

This tin is a deluxe-mini or travel size but because it is so small and thin, it was quite difficult to open, as the lid and the bottom are very similar size. Nevertheless, this shouldn’t be a problem with the full size product.

The cream itself has a strong cosmetic scent of a floral-lemony type cream. The texture of the off-white cream is typical, spreads easily and although it feels moisturising initially the feeling doesn’t last too long. It also initially feels a little sticky while it’s drying.

There are some interesting ingredients but also some questionable ones like alcohol, fragrance and some known sensitisers. However, what I disliked the most was the strange clot looking parts (they look like little dots) in the cream which look like the cream has gone off or the formulation doesn’t keep it as well mixed. Either way, it’s not good.

Nevertheless, even though it’s not perfect, ingredient-wise it’s better than a lot of body creams out there.

This 25mL mini retails for £2.50 and is vegan. The full size product, 150mL, retails for £7.95. SCORE = 7/10

Bybi Plumper Lip Balm

I must admit lip plumper products never worked for me, ever and sadly, this wasn’t an exception.

This balm felt tingling and a little burning on the lips (which are not good reactions for your skin) but my lips were still the same size. The product was also hard to squeeze out of the tube as it is quite thick.

It was easy to apply on the lips and the peppermint gum-like scent was pleasant. Sadly though, I didn’t think that my dry lips were deeply moisturised and overall I can’t say that it is a product I will remember.

This 10mL balm is full size, lasts for 12M and retails for £9. It is also natural, vegan and cruelty free. SCORE = 6/10

Essence You Better Work! Gym-Proof Primer

This is a primer that is supposed to survive your sweat, blur and also give you SPF20.

The ingredients contained are not particularly nourishing and most of them are either for providing you with sun protection or with absorbing your sweat. Nevertheless, this might be a good primer for summer or if you are extremely oily.

While it would be very easy to criticise the concept of wearing a primer and therefore, makeup while in the gym, I can understand why some people might feel the need to, I wear light makeup to the gym myself.

On the negative side, I didn’t notice any blurring and I didn’t like that this primer includes dyes to make it pale blue.

This 30mL tube is full size, lasts for 6M and retails for £3.50. Now that’s super cheap! SCORE = 7/10

Glossybox March 2019 5_20190318100528831

Overall, this month’s theme was very powerful but the products were not. The box was a little lacking in wow factor but all products were worth a try. Glossybox has been a little boring for a few months in a row now but I’m hoping that this is just a temporary low.

Initial box score, in terms of products and first feelings = 7/10

Overall box score after product testing (average of product scores) = 7/10

Star product = Bellápierre Kiss Proof Lip Créme in Hibiscus
