Glossybox Beauty Box May 2019 – Unboxing and Product Reviews

The Glossybox beauty box was a little late this month but still exciting to open when it arrived. This month’s theme was all about high-end beauty trends and who wouldn’t like that!

The box itself was the standard but iconic pink Glossybox and came with a little leaflet, as always, which has a little information about the products contained. It contained 5 products as always, of which all 5 were full size.

Let’s have a look at the products in more detail. These are short reviews that cover first impressions and experiences from using the products. For full reviews, including ingredient analysis and if I would recommend a product or not, check out: Beauty In-depth Reviews & Ingredient Analysis (all articles here). Bear in mind that these are my personal opinions and that beauty is a very personal thing, we all have different skin, requirements and biological build which can influence things. MudMasky Aftermask Vitamin Serum

According to Glossybox, this is apparently the world’s first skincare product specially designed to be used after a facemask, as it is meant to nourish your skin with vitamins that it is craving after an intense cleansing mask.  An interesting concept but mostly based on marketing as your skin needs nourishment at all times. If your cleanser is so aggressive that it takes away your natural oils etc and you need urgent deep nourishment after, then you need to change your cleanser!

Nevertheless, serums are always welcome in a skincare regime and if chosen carefully they can boost your skincare to the next level. This one contains some interesting ingredients for sure but like most serums, it is not a complete skincare solution. If your skincare is specifically missing one or more of the ingredients it contains the it’s worth using. If not, then it is not special enough to consider adding to your routine regardless.

This serum lasts for 12M and a 30mL tube retails for £34.19. SCORE = 7/10

Annabelle Minerals Rose Mineral Blush

There is something about loose powder blush that is strange, although there shouldn’t be anything strange about it. Nevertheless, this blush is a beautiful shade of dirty pink (shade actually called rose) and works well.

It comes in a cute little plastic tub that looks nice, even though it feels cheap, and is very simple. The ingredients are also as simple as it gets, no better than a drugstore product. As a result, the price £12.50, although not bad, can be considered a little high and probably comes from the “mineral” tag. This 4g blush lasts for 12M. SCORE = 8/10

Beauty Kitchen Natruline Lip Treatment

This little lip balm looks very traditional and similar to other products in the market but that’s not necessarily a bad thing.

The product itself is an off-white with a hint of yellow balm that feels more like an oil than a balm when applied on the skin. The skin feels moisturised but only for a short period of time. This product also has a natural off-scent but it is subtle and you might not smell it unless you put your nose very close.

I love the simplicity of the product, it only contains 4 ingredients, but at the same time it is a downfall too. If it also contained a couple of deeper and longer moisturising ingredients it would be superior to other balms of its type.

This is not a bad product and it does what it says I just wished it moisturised and conditioned the skin for more than a couple of minutes. Even when I tried it on my hand knuckles and other dry areas (because lips get rid of products like that much faster) they didn’t feel any different than the rest of my hand which is a shame. I wouldn’t say that this is a quick fix for dry lips as the product states, but it might be a great addon for fixing dry lipsticks or making them slide more effortlessly.

This tin contains 20g, retails for £2.99 and the product lasts for 6M. SCORE = 7/10

Barry M Cosmetics Chisel Cheeks Contour Cream Kit

Who doesn’t love a palette of any sort! It makes a beauty box so much more exciting!

This contour palette contains 3 highlight colours and 3 contours meaning that it will be appropriate for different skin shades. However, it also means that you will only really use 2 out of the 6 shades, the highlight and contour that matches you best, and the rest 2/3 of the palette will be a waste. Even if you mix colours, it’s unlikely to use it all unless you often do makeup on others.

On the plus side, I love that the 3 highlights are considerate of neutral, warm and cool toned skin and that the brown contours do not have strong hints of orange. The product works well and lasts all day long.

This palette lasts for 18M and retails for £7.99. Not a bad price! SCORE = 8/10

Nailberry Love Me Tender Nail Polish

What a gorgeous colour! This shade nail varnish, called “Love Me Tender” is the perfect balance of a dusty rose and purple colours. It works well and lasts for 2 days without chipping, like any other nail varnish out there. Although note that this will highly depend on your activities as well as the quality of the top coat you use.

This “breathable nail polish” as the brand calls it will not allow your nails to breathe, simply because your nails are dead. However, it might allow air to pass through your nails and onto your skin under, which might be an advantage if you constantly wear nail polish. However, remember that if you use a top coat you will likely block the “breathable” property of this nail varnish but at the same time if you don’t, your nail varnish will last considerably less time.

I loved that although it still smells like a nail varnish, it’s not as strong of a smell as some others. The bottle is cute and the brush is easy to use.

This 15mL nail varnish lasts for 12M and retails for £14.50. SCORE = 9/10

Glossybox May 2019 3_20190527112044237

Overall, I didn’t find this month’s Glossybox particularly exciting but neither boring. It contained 5 full size products to try and that’s great. I do hope that the next box though is a little more memorable.

Initial box score, in terms of products and first feelings = 8/10

Overall box score after product testing (average of product scores) = 7.8/10

Star product = Nailberry Love Me Tender Nail Polish
