Cohorted Beauty Box June 2019 – Unboxing and Product Reviews

It seems that June is the month for beauty box improvements, as Cohorted also decided to change their box, a bit more drastically than Glossybox though. The box design is entirely different and although it is now less luxurious looking and feeling, the change is very welcome and overall very positive.

Cohorted June 2019 5_20190617111714497

The old box (left side of image below) closed magnetically, had a tie ribbon at the front and although it was plain black with the Cohorted logo, it had a polished finish which gave it a luxurious feeling. It did however, constantly break down, because it was held together with bad glue and so I always ended up throwing them away.

The new box (right side of image above) is much simpler with the traditional box with lid design. It is matte black with a white pattern and although it is definitely not as luxurious looking and feeling, I am so glad that Cohorted is moving forward, as this box is highly reusable and especially great for creating compartments insider drawers, storing items or even gifting!

The Cohorted box was a standard black, square box that closes with a lid. The box also came with its monthly, small beauty magazine (about 30 pages) that tells you a little bit more about each product and some featured products or artists.

Cohorted June 2019 contained 8 products of which 6 were full size, it was packed full and that’s really great. Great value for money. Look at all that stuff!!!

Let’s have a look at the products in more detail. These are short reviews that cover first impressions and experiences from using the products. Amly Beauty Sleep Facial Mist

This is a bed time ritual product that is supposed to help you snooze off. All you need to do is spray it on clean face and your pillow too, if you like.

Amly Beauty Sleep Facial Mist_20190617105636387

It comes in really luxurious looking and feeling outer and inner packaging. The actual bottle feels very heavy and looks nice.  The spray mist is so thin and even that you won’t even be sure you’ve hit your face and it has a soothing scent.

This spray also contains some ingredients that might be skincare beneficial and is interesting enough to devote a separate article on it after I test it thoroughly.

A 100mL bottle lasts for 6M and retails for £52. SCORE = 9/10

MONU Skin Gentle Toner

This toner has that characteristic off-lemon-like scent that natural products have and although it is a little strange that it comes as a mist, it is easy to use and it leaves the skin feeling smooth and soft.

The ingredients are not impressive though and it contains parabens and urea if you wish to avoid them.

The best thing about this product is how simple and yet elegant the bottle looks. This full size, 180mL toner lasts for 12M and retails for £22.50. A price too high for the ingredients contained. SCORE = 6/10

Monu Skin Gentle Cleanser

Cleansers don’t need to contain skin nourishing ingredients, they get washed out anyways but bear in mind that this cleanser contains urea and parabens if you wish to avoid them.

It is essentially a milk cream cleanser that you can use on dry skin. It cleans ok but it does struggle with a full face of makeup, you will need to go over a couple of times.

It also has that characteristic off-lemon-like scent that natural products have but at least the bottle looks nice and is easy to use.

This 180mL cleanser lasts for 12M and retails for 22.50. SCORE = 6/10

Monu Skin Moisture Rich Collagen Cream

The moisturiser is the better product out of the three Monu here. It moisturises the skin and even contains some good ingredients. It’s not the most skin nourishing cream your money can buy but it’s not bad either. However, note that most ingredients are contained in equal or less than 1% which could mean that this cream is not very effective, even if it has some good ingredients.

This product also has that characteristic off-lemon-like scent that natural products have and to make things worse it also contains fragrance. If you are serious about skincare look for fragrance free products, it is a completely unnecessary ingredient with the potential to have negative effects on your skin.

This cream moisturised my skin but didn’t control any of my oil production, so perhaps do not use it under makeup if you are the oily skin type. This 50mL moisturiser lasts for 12M and retails for £29.50. SCORE = 7/10

Cle Melting Lip Powder in Shade Dessert Rose

This melting powder becomes a stain on your lips and although it is not transfer proof, it transfers less than a lipstick.

Cle Melting Lip Powder in Shade Dessert Rose_20190617105502904

The bottle was half full which made me feel as if someone else has touched the product before and unfortunately, the colour did not translate on the lips. It looks like a beautiful shade of pink as a powder but becomes more of a cola brown-tinted colour on the lips. Almost as if it oxidises. That combined with the fact that the colour does not apply evenly because it’s not possible to pick up the exact same amount of powder every time, ends up giving a not so complimentary look.

At least it feels lightweight on the lips, but you somehow end up getting the colour everywhere, perhaps because the powder gets everywhere.

This 2g lip stain lasts for 12M and retails for £20. SCORE = 5/10

Illamasque Hydra Veil Rehydrating Gel

This primer is meant to hydrate your skin but also provide a base for your makeup.

It feels hydrating to the skin which is no surprise as it is literally a gel. It’s not as easy to spread as a cream, as it breaks off in little gel pieces, but it’s not hard either. It gets absorbed quickly and doesn’t leave any residues behind.

Illamasque Hydra Veil Rehydrating Gel_20190617110448555

It has a subtle calming scent and it lasts for 9M. It’s not the best base for oily skin but it worked well under makeup, giving a dewier finish to my matte foundation. I actually liked that as super matte foundations can look a little harsh and unnatural. This primer made my matte foundation a little shinier but still overall matte, it just looked like the natural skin shine.

The ingredients are not bad but neither specially nourishing, so don’t think of this as your best skincare. I use this to make my foundation a little more dewy.

This 7mL primer is worth ~£8. SCORE = 7/10

Too Faced Melted Chocolate Lipstick in Shade Metallic Frozen Hot Chocolate

This lipstick fits with the Too Faced design and product character. If there is something that Too Faced does incredibly well, is producing products that look and often smell appealing and on top of that, products that actually have character.

Too Faced Melted Chocolate Lipstick in Shade Metallic Frozen Hot Chocolate_20190617105607080

This lipstick is not exactly a liquid lip, it does not dry and stay all day but is rather a liquefied lipstick. It behaves like a normal lipstick, it comes off if you eat, drink or kiss someone, for example, but it is applied as a liquid.

The colour Metallic Chocolate gives a nice metallic brown colour. It is not too sticky and even though it does come off, it lasts longer than normal lipsticks. To compliment it’s nice and shiny colour, the lipstick also has a chocolate smell which will almost definitely make you crave chocolate.

It is a very good product overall and I even like the cushion applicator it comes with. However, it also comes with a relatively high price tag of £19.00, but it is totally worth it considering the quality, looks and even the gorgeous smell.

The only drawback about this product is the colour which is down to personal preference. It is a gorgeous colour and I love the metallic aspect to it, as it gives it dimension but I think that the pinks and reds are even nicer. I’d give it a 10 if it had an extra vitamin or ingredient to nourish for the skin. It does have vitamin E but if I can be super picky, so do a lot of products this day. I just wish there was that little extra ingredient to make this product even more special.

Warning – This product will give you serious chocolate cravings. SCORE = 9/10

Sarah Jessica Parker Born Lovely Fragrance

Although I don’t wear perfume very often (my cat naturally hates strong scents), I have grown to love perfume rollons because they are very convenient for travelling. Just slip one in you handbag and you will always smell fabulous. And when you smell fabulous, you feel fabulous!

Sarah Jessica Parker Born Lovely Fragrance_20190617105859844

I personally liked the scent of this perfume, it is sweet and soft but not very strong. It’s not floral or fruity, it’s just a sweet perfume scent that is suitable for both day and night as well as professional occasions.

It is described to have mandarin, peony and cassis top notes; blushing freesia, honeysuckle and orange blossom middle notes; and patchouli, cedarwood and caramel base notes.

This 10mL roll on lasts for 80M and retails for £8-10. I won’t score this product as it is a very much down to personal preference. I personally liked it enough to purchase.

Cohorted June 2019 6_20190617111758053

Overall, I loved that Cohorted changed their box, it was about time! The new box is not as luxurious but it is reusable and that matters more. The products contained were all interesting enough to try and there were so many of them as well as being full size!

Initial box score, in terms of products and first feelings = 10/10

Overall box score after product testing (average of product scores) = 7/10

Star product = Amly Beauty Sleep Facial Mist
