Cohorted August 2019 was a one-brand box, containing only Doucce products. This idea is not new, Cohorted did this before in June 2018 and other times with other brands, but it is still equally brilliant. I love the idea of a one-brand box and with so many products inside it, how can you be disappointed?
When Cohorted changed its subscription price from £35 to £40, I was concerned as the price was steep to begin with. But I have to say that since then, they have been including more products and of full size and so far it’s been absolutely worth the cash. Keep it up Cohorted!
The Cohorted box was also different this month. It was still the new square box with that closes with a lid on top but instead of being black, it was white. The box also came with its monthly, small beauty magazine (about 30 pages) that tells you a little bit more about each product and some featured products or artists.
Cohorted August 2019 contained 5 full size Doucce products.
Let’s have a look at the products in more detail. These are short reviews that cover first impressions and experiences from using the products. Bear in mind that these are my personal opinions and that beauty is a very personal thing, we all have different skin, requirements and biological build which can influence things. Doucce Boombastic Lash Volumizer Mascara
I have other Doucce mascaras and it seems like they are all pretty good. This mascara creates thick and long lashes that last all day long. The thickness get’s lost slowly throughout the day but the lashes stay up and long all day.
The wand is one of those plastic, short haired ones which I personally I’m not too fond off, but it works well. The packaging is simple but also elegant and the ingredients are simple too. This mascara contains methylparaben though, if you choose to avoid it.
This mascara is full size 13.5mL, lasts for 12M and retails for £18. SCORE = 9/10
Freematic Pro Eyeshadow Palette in Shade Smokey Finish
I love the Freematic eyeshadow palettes because they are very adjustable. The eyeshadows are held in magnetically and you can remove or add whichever colours you want, shimmers or matte. Plus, you can also add highlighters and blushes too!
They are the ultimate travelling tool and both the shadows and packaging quality are great. I wrote an in-depth post on these, check out: Doucce Freematic Flexible Palettes – In-depth Review and Ingredient Analyses
This16.8g eyeshadow palette is a full size and retails for £50. A bit pricey but it is very re-usable. SCORE = 9/10
Doucce Cheek Blush in Shade Hidden Tropics
This blush has a gorgeous pinky-orange colour that is perfect for summer. It works well and blends easily.
The packaging though is a real let down, the metallic casing feel light and looks cheap. Also, considering the incredibly basic ingredients the price feels a little expensive.
This is a full-size blush, 8g, which lasts for 12M and retails for £24. SCORE = 7/10
Oscar De La Renta Flor Eau De Parfum
This month’s box also included a perfume sample which is great. As long as the samples don’t count as products but rather as little addons, then it’s all good!
The perfume has a light floral scent but it reminds me more of a male cologne than a perfume. Nevertheless, it smells nice and I enjoyed it.
Since perfumes are all about personal preference, I won’t be scoring this product.
Lip Definer Pencil in Shade Orion
This lip liner works very well, it glides effortlessly on the lips without even feeling it and the colour is nicely solid. It’s creamy and easy to use.
The only downside is that it is a pencil which needs to be sharpened, which means that you can loose a lot of product while trying to sharpen it and you might never get as nice of a pointy end as the beginning.
The colour Orion is unfortunately too dark to combine with the liquid lipstick in this box but that’s ok.
I have noticed as well that Doucce doesn’t always do very well translating colours on the packaging accurately and this is a nice example. In the picture below you can see that the representative colour on the packaging and on the pencil are very different, with the pencil one being the most accurate one. Just something to keep in mind when you buy Doucce products, look at the actual product colour don’t pick with the packaging in mind.
This 1.25g pencil is a full size product which lasts for 12M and retails for £15. SCORE = 8/10
Lovestruck Matte Liquid Lipstick in Shade Cupcake
I’m not a fan of liquid lipsticks because they are just not up to the quality yet that they should be. They most often feel and look dry and they come off when you ear or drink. Not to mention that you can’t just re-apply them because then they feel more heavy and dry, you have to take them off and put a new layer on.
They are just not worth the hassle for me but I have to say that this liquid lipstick is indeed very good. It doesn’t feel too drying and it survives eating and drinking very well (although this depends how you eat and drink – avoid lips!). I was a little impressed with the quality and I am curious if it’s just this one lipstick or the entire range.
The packaging looks simple but expensive and even the colour is easily wearable. It doesn’t smell of anything and the wand is easy to use. The ingredients are very basic but it’s a lipstick, it’s not meant to be skincare worthy.
This is a full size, 4.7mL, liquid lipstick which lasts for 12M and retails for £18. SCORE = 8/10
Overall, I absolutely loved this box. I love the idea of a one-brand box and I loved the Doucce products too. Keep the good boxes coming Cohorted.
Initial box score, in terms of products and first feelings = 10/10
Overall box score after product testing (average of product scores) = 8.2/10
