Cohorted October 2019 – Unboxing and Product Reviews

Cohorted is a luxury beauty box which costs £40 a month. While this might sound like a lot of money, it is often a very good investment as the products contained are worth much more than that. However, like with any beauty box, some months are more exciting than others but the lows can be worse because of that £40 price tag, making it feel extra bad.

This is how I felt this month, even though the worth of the box was much higher than the price, it was missing the excitement factor.

The Cohorted box was as always the standard black, square box that closes with a lid. The box also came with its monthly, small beauty magazine (about 30 pages) that tells you a little bit more about each product and some featured products or artists.

Cohorted October 2019 contained 8 full or travel size products and 1 sample.

Let’s have a look at the products in more detail. These are short reviews that cover first impressions and experiences from using the products. For full reviews, including ingredient analysis and if I would recommend a product or not, check out: Beauty In-depth Reviews & Ingredient Analysis (all articles here). Bear in mind that these are my personal opinions and that beauty is a very personal thing, we all have different skin, requirements and biological build which can influence things. IGK Hair Rich Kid Coconut Oil Gel

This is a hair styling product that you work into towel-dried hair and let air dry on its own. It’s meant to be the foundation for hydrated hair giving you “the hair you always wanted”.

Well, after trying this out I didn’t really get the hair I always wanted. At least it smells nice, like sweet coconut. This product works best for curls or curl creation so if you want iron straight hair this might not be the best product to use.

This product is paraben, SLS, petrolatum, mineral oil, cruelty and gluten free as well as vegan. It also provides some UV protection.

There are some interesting ingredients but also many standard ones. However, as it always is with hair products, the ingredients don’t matter that much since our hair is dead. Hair products are about conditioning and styling, you cannot change the health of a dead hair so use the products that condition and style your hair best (this can be very personal as it depends on your type of hair, thickness etc).

This 145mL tube lasts for 12M and retails for £25. SCORE = 6/10

Avant Eight-Hour Retexturing & Anti-oxidising Hyaluronic Fascial Serum

This serum can be used both day and night, as it lacks SPF. However, it’s very thin and almost watery texture is more suited for dry to normal skin than the oily type.

It smells nice, like a light cucumber cream, but it takes a moment to be fully absorbed, even by dry skin. The skin doesn’t feel deeply moisturised after but neither dry.

There are plenty good ingredients in it, including hyaluronic acid, niacinamide, retinol and more. At the same time though, it still lacks some skincare basics such as ceramides for example. Nevertheless, it’s not a bad cream but sadly it contains fragrance.

It lasts for 12M and a 30mL tube retails for £89. The price is not worth the ingredients in this cream, it’s not like it’s perfect and there are others with a smaller price tag that will give you the same or better skin nourishment. SCORE = 7/10

Memi Radiance Primer

This lightly pink primer spreads easily and is absorbed quickly by the skin. It has a cream-like scent and it gives a little radiance boost to your skin.

If you are oily you might hate this as you will constantly wonder if your oils are coming out or you are sweating but if you like a little reflection on your skin then this might be worth a try.

This product won an Attracta Beauty Award in 2018 and is vegan and cruelty free. It contains some good ingredients like hyaluronic acid and vitamins but also parabens if you prefer to avoid them. It’s not the most nourishing product but for makeup it contains a fair amount of nourishing ingredients.

This 30mL bottle lasts for 12M and retails for £16. SCORE = 7/10

Memi Lash to Lash Volume Edition in Black

This mascara looks very natural as it elongates the lashes but doesn’t add thickness. It opens up the eyes nicely without looking too fake but it doesn’t last for very long. My lashes were almost completely down within a few minutes.

The wand is nice and the packaging looks cute but it was all disappointing when the function is not that impressive.

This 7.5mL tube lasts for 3M and retails for £10. SCORE = 6/10

Skimono Beauty Masks

What a lovely trio of masks for the perfect day in. This trio pack contained a face, feet and hand mask all of which were very pleasant and lovely to use.

They all contain good ingredients and are lovely to use. The face mask costs £15 whereas the feet and hands masks cost £10 each. While they were all great I don’t think a mask in general is worth spending that much cash on, especially since one-use products won’t change your skin that much. I would personally suggest you invest that cash in your skincare regime. SCORE = 8/10

INC.REDIBLE You Glow Girl Highlighter

Well this is literally glitter. It has a liquid form, spreads easily and dries quickly. It looks gorgeous but prepare for your entire self, clothes, hands and everything you touch to be glittered, I mean you know how it goes…

Totally worth it though, this highlighter is beautiful especially for body highlighting or eyeshadow boosting applications.

This 9.35g tube lasts for 6M and retails for £10. If you like glitter this is a must try and if you are not a big glitter fan like me, then this might convince you. SCORE = 9/10

Agent Provocateur Signature Perfume

Always nice to receive products to try, even if they are samples. This perfume has a heavy and very sweet scent that is most appropriate for evenings.

It smells floral and although I personally like it, I won’t score it since scent is a personal choice.

Overall, I felt a bit disappointed with this month’s box not because of lack of value but rather lack of excitement. The past few months have been so exciting, and I guess the bar was set high. Let’s hope next month is more interesting.

Initial box score, in terms of products and first feelings = 6/10

Overall box score after product testing (average of product scores) = 7.2/10

Star product = INC.REDIBLE You Glow Girl Highlighter
