Glossybox Beauty Box May 2020 – Unboxing and Product Reviews

Glossybox was the last box to arrive this month. This month’s theme was “Wild thing” and while the box was uniquely designed, the products contained didn’t really fit the theme.

This month’s box contained 5 products as always, of which all 5 were full size.

Let’s have a look at the products in more detail. These are short reviews that cover first impressions and experiences from using the products. For full reviews, including ingredient analysis and if I would recommend a product or not, check out: Beauty In-depth Reviews & Ingredient Analysis (all articles here). Bear in mind that these are my personal opinions and that beauty is a very personal thing, we all have different skin, requirements and biological build which can influence things. What worked for me might not work for you and vice versa, please leave your comments below

Steve Laurant Eyeshadow Palette in Wild Thing

This small eyeshadow palette contains some nice colours which can create both casual and professional looks.

The eyeshadows don’t crease if you wear an eyeshadow primer but the colour payoff is not great. On the plus side, if you want shadows that are a little less intrusive, then the lightness of the shades can be nice.

The ingredients are incredibly simple which means that the £31 price tag is for the brand name. This palette contains 7.2g of product and lasts for 12M. It is also cruelty-free. SCORE = 7/10

EOS Sphere Lip Balm

What is it with the sphere lip balms these days! I personally don’t find them better or easier to use and they are harder to have in a pocket!

This lip balm works well, leaves the lips feeling moisturising but like any balm of this type, the moisturisation feeling is temporary. Atleast it contains some skin nutritious ingredients of which all are natural and some are organic. As a chemist I can tell you that there is no scientific proof that natural or organic ingredients are better so what you are paying for here is emotion and branding.

This lip balm is full size, 7g, retails for £6.50 and lasts for 12M. SCORE = 8/10

Vitamasques Bamboo Charcoal Detoxifying + Pore Tightening

Interestingly, according to the Glossybox leaflet, the face mask that should have been included in the box was an OH K! one. Nevertheless, give or take all face masks are the same. They provide temporary results but can be very pleasurable to use.

This mask was no exception. It felt nice to use but there wasn’t much of a different to my skin. It contains some good ingredients but also some that are not best for the skin, like alcohol and fragrance. This mask is full size and retails for £3.99. SCORE = 7/10

Mudmasky Hair Mask, Scalp Treatment & Miracle Shampoo 3 in 1

Products that usually claim to do it all are not that great but this one wasn’t too bad either. The cream smells nice but is hard to spread around the hair as it doesn’t foam much and so it’s hard to know where you’ve put it and where you didn’t. I ended up using about half the tube in one wash just to get my scalp covered.

It doesn’t leave the hair squeecky clean and the hair feels heavy after using this product, so overall it doesn’t give you the confidence that the hair is clean.

The result is ok, the hair is clean and there isn’t much frizziness but at the same time it takes less time for the hair to look dirty again.

This product contains some interesting ingredients and the overall experience wasn’t bad but it’s not an easy to use shampoo and so I don’t think I would purchase. Not to mention that it retails for £21.44 for 75mL. SCORE = 7/10

Bellápierre Kiss Proof Lip Creme Incognito

This liquid lipstick is very good. It is indeed kiss proof and it lasts a long time. Like any liquid lipstick though, it comes off when you eat or drink only on the inside of the lip where saliva and your tongue touch your lips the most but the rest of it is intact. If you apply another layer over it after you had food, it still works and dries fine and it doesn’t create a thick, dry surface or breaks into pieces like a lot of other liquid lipsticks do. It takes a few minutes to dry but not any longer than other liquid lipsticks and although it feels matt it doesn’t really dry out your lips.

The ingredients are incredibly basic so it’s nice to see that the price was lowered from £20 to £15. SCORE = 9/10

Overall, the theme was nice but the products didn’t really fit. Everything contained was great to try but at the same time there wasn’t a wow factor. More specifically, sheet masks have become a very common item to find in beauty boxes and while they are great to use, they are a one-off product which means you have less items to use throughout the month.

Initial box score, in terms of products and first feelings =6/10

Overall box score after product testing (average of product scores) = 7.6/10

Box value = £77.93

Star product = Bellápierre Kiss Proof Lip Creme Incognito
