Cohorted Beauty Box June 2020 – Unboxing and Product Reviews

The Cohorted box this month was as always the standard black, square box that closes with a lid. The box also came with it’s monthly, small beauty magazine (about 30 pages) that tells you a little bit more about each product and some featured products or artists.

But the contents were very exciting this month! Cohorted June 2020 was a one-brand only box and contained 6 This Works products! I love one-brand boxes as they give you an inside into whether the brand is overall good and whether it is for you! This is a more advanced concept, beyond simple beauty box try this and this random product. It is your chance to form a more rounded opinion about a brand!

Let’s have a look at the products in more detail. These are short reviews that cover first impressions and experiences from using the products. For full reviews, including ingredient analysis and if I would recommend a product or not, check out: Beauty In-depth Reviews & Ingredient Analysis (all articles here). Bear in mind that these are my personal opinions and that beauty is a very personal thing, we all have different skin, requirements and biological build which can influence things. What worked for me might not work for you and vice versa, please leave your comments below

This Works Deep Sleep Pillow Spray

You are supposed to spray this on your pillow before you go to bed and it is meant to calm you and help you not only fall asleep but also have better quality sleep.

It smells very calming, a bit like lavender products but not just. It’s not a bad smell but it can be annoying to some people, including me, to have a strong smell in the bedroom. So annoying that it might actually keep you awake. However, there were also times when I found it calming and soothing. It depends on the mood, but I think that overall you will have to use it every day and slowly associate this with calm and sleep before it really works. So, you could create a psychological trigger if you create a bedtime ritual around it.

I have had one night of amazing, haven’t slept that well in years sleep, the first time I used it actually, but since then I wasn’t all that impressed, so it might even have been a placebo effect.

If you have troubles with your sleep, I feel you and I know that “anything” is worth a try so see if it works for you. This 75mL spray is a full size which lasts for 12M and costs £19.50.

This didn’t work for my sleep but what I might do with this spray instead is associate it with meditation or yoga. I sometimes light a scented candle when I meditate or do yoga but having this scent around should also work. SCORE = 6/10

This Works Deep Sleep Body Cocoon

This body cream has a strong scent of lavender-ish and is very calming but can become annoying if you use it on your entire body. Although your brain will quickly ignore the scent which also means that its benefits might not be that long lasting. I felt nice and relaxed when I used it (after a shower which is relacing in itself) but not so much long after.

In terms of skincare benefits, it contains a lot of good ingredients but also misses some skincare basics. Most of the ingredients are also listed after Phenoxyethanol, meaning they are present in 1% or less. In terms of moisturisation, it didn’t seem to be very deep either as my skin was back to normal the day after.

It feels that this is the type of product that is more beneficial in creating psychological associations and rituals (due to the scent) rather than providing big skincare benefits. This 100mL tube is full size, lasts for 6M and retails for £25. SCORE = 7/10

This Works My Wrinkles Midnight Moisture

This face cream has a thick but easy to spread consistency and a yellow colour. It has that lemon-like off-scent of natural products and doesn’t have the typical This Works calming scent.

There are some good ingredients in this cream though it is missing essentials. In combination with the oils below, it moisturised my skin deeply and left it feeling thick, soft and healthy.

This 13mL jar is travel size, lasts for 6M and retails for £14. SCORE = 8/10

This Works Evening Detox CBD Booster + AHA Complex

Firstly, let me start by saying that there is no such thing as detox, that is a made-up populism trend that has no scientific backing.

Now to the actual product. This clear oil has a strong lemony-off scent and behaves more like a dry oil, meaning it’s not too sticky. It contains CBD and AHA so it is better used at night and in combination with the This Works My Wrinkles Midnight Moisture cream above, it moisturised my skin deeply and left it feeling thick, soft and healthy.

This little bottle doesn’t come with a dropper but rather with a very leak prone “tip it out hole”. The bottle contains 4mL which is travel size, lasts for 6M and retails for £8. SCORE = 7/10

This Works My Wrinkles CBD Booster + Granactive Retinoid

Same story as with the previous oil, other than in the ingredients, I couldn’t really tell a difference between the two when using them, other than this is a yellow oil.

The bottle contains 4mL which is travel size, lasts for 6M and retails for £8. SCORE = 7/10

This Works Stress Check Roll On

This is a little roll on bottle that you can carry in your bag and use when stressed. It has the lavender-like scent and is indeed calming but only if you want it to be. Don’t expect this to calm you down if you are in full anger mode.

Such products work best if you associate them with a ritual, perhaps use this during or before meditation, yoga, sleep etc. Then as you slowly associate them with calm they might start to calm you down when used.

This 5mL roll-on is a travel size which lasts for 24M and retails for £11.25. SCORE = 7/10

This Works In Transit Camera Close-up Mask, Moisturiser and Primer in one

I can’t really write a first impression here since I’ve been using this primer religiously the past few years. It is my ride-or-die makeup primer which doesn’t only give you an amazing makeup base but also nourishes the skin. I notice a difference when I don’t use it and this is the type of product that you should add in your regime.

The 15mL tube is travel size which lasts for 6M and retails for £12. SCORE = 10/10

Overall, I loved this month’s Cohorted box and in general I love it when they do one-brand boxes. The only thing that could make this box slightly better is the size of the products, two of them were full size but the rest where travel size which also means that this box wasn’t as high value as other Cohorted months.

Initial box score, in terms of products and first feelings = 9/10

Overall box score after product testing (average of product scores) = 7.4/10

Box value = £97.75

Star product = This Works In Transit Camera Close-up Mask, Moisturiser and Primer in one
